Even though the topic is actively censored by the intellectual terrorists who control the intelligentsia with their political correctness, it is a fact confirmed by everyone's experience as well as by repeated scientific experiments that there is a measurable discrepancy between the distribution of general intelligence among men and women. IQ as measured in either sex leads to a normal distribution of intelligence along a bell curve, but the standard deviation of IQ amongst males is noticably larger, and the average of IQ amongst males is higher.

Now, I have a rational explanation for both statistics that does not depend on any significant difference distribution of genetic abilities at birth, except for one essential trait: that males in general have a tendency to be more reckless than females.

What does this difference in risk-aversion have to do with the distribution of intelligence, will you ask? Everything! Because more risks means more selection, both internal and external.

Ben once wrote that One good Husband is worth two good Wives; for the scarcer things are, the more they're valued. Well, then by the same token, one intelligent woman is worth a lot of intelligent men.

Since I'm processing the backlog of my blog notes, here's one piece about a topic that has been at the center of several scandals this year yet surprisingly little open public discussions: genetic differences amongst human beings.

I had read other articles by Theodore Dalrymple before (thanks to MiF), and they were all good. So when GNXP announced this one, I read it at once, and I relished: An imaginary scandal.

A colleague of mine told me that according to an african friend (from which part of West Africa?), many african tales for little children feature as a hero a thief-crook, whose tricks are glorified and who wins in the end. I'm looking for corroboration of this information, if possible sample such tales, with metadata about the context in which these tales are told.

In a bus to NYC early in January 2005, I met this gorgeous girl who was reading a course in Economics. The textbook was open on a praise of the Fed and its role in regulating the National Economy, with an opposing page in a special color denoting higher science, that justified this role based on one macroeconomic equation by Keynes. It was too tempting, so I started a conversation.

By way of DF on an evopsy mailing-list, this review by Matt Nuenke of The Robot's Rebellion. While I feel totally in synch with the author of the review, I particularly like the part about The four interrelated biases I have discussed in detail elsewhere. Makes me want to read more. Now, my reading list is quite long already, and reading is not on top of my todo list either. Sigh.

Of course, while the image of a "rebellion" is meant as a way to indicate that we go against (some) innate or induced tendencies, let it be reminded that at a deeper level, "our" genes and memes "want" us to rebel against counter-productive remnants of our ontogeny/phylogeny, so as to more efficiently spread them -- we have been selected for our capacity of overcoming the limitations of mere animality.

PS: Matt's NeoEugenics site prominently links to prometheism.net, which reminds me of extropians, except that it's focused on rationally surveyed evolution rather than a technological revolution to enhance the human race.

Henry Hazlitt's The Foundations of Morality took the classical view of ethics, debunking usual mistakes and fallacies, reaffirming the essence of what must be retained. It was a necessary cleanup and restatement of ethics; however, it didn't try to study the nature of the foundations of ethics but to explore what kind of ethics can stand firmly or not on its foundations.

Thus, Daniel C. Dennett's Freedom Evolves can be seen as a complementary text. It establishes the modern foundations upon which ethics can be rebuilt, and related to the sciences of nature: physics, biological evolution, economics. And at the same time, it avoids to delve in the realm of ethics itself (and reveals several time the wrongheaded statist ontology of the author, though in a few isolated marginal remarks orthogonal to the discourse of the book).

Finally, Ayn Rand, in such books as The Virtue of Selfishness or Philosophy, Who Needs It?, gives rational foundations to Ethics, relating it to Metaphysics and Epistemology. And she even studies the psycho-epistemology of anti-morality.

Yes, it's very personal, but in case you didn't notice yet, I'm an exhibitionist indeed. L: non, je ne suis pas sage. But naughty as I may be, at least I don't waste my soul and money in hostess bars.

J'y discute les notions de courtoisie, de règles de comportement, de tradition, d'innovation, de Droit, de Libéralisme, etc.

Philippe Gouillou, dans le billet madones, putains, hijab de son blogue discutait des signes distinctifs par lesquelles les femmes peuvent se différencier selon leur stratégie sexuelle; il étudiait le cas particulier d'un monde détestable où les femmes réputées légères sont les victimes potentielles de viols collectifs impunis du fait d'une culture barbaresque basée sur une religion vile et avilissante. Voici ma proposition libérale pour un signe distinctif qui contrairement à celui imposé arbitrairement par un décret religieux, a l'avantage d'avoir une valeur intrinsèque indépendante de tout décret et de toute convention: plutôt que le port du foulard, je propose le port du flingue. Toute femme portant un flingue [1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9] sera réputée sérieuse et ne devant pas être violée impunément.

De même que les libéraux dénonçons la monnaie décrétée qui ne repose sur rien de valable, est imposée par la force malgré la volonté et les préférences des personnes concernées et finit immanquablement par des faillites à répétitions, nous repoussons avec dégoût ces signes distinctifs reposant sur des décrets imposés par la violence malgré les goûts des personnes concernées, et qui non seulement ne leur fournissent pas de protection efficace, mais sont le signe tangible de leur soumission à l'arbitraire, et l'appel à l'exercice de davantage d'arbitraire à leur égard. Vive la monnaie libre, basée sur des valeurs tangibles librement acceptées, vive les signes distinctifs libres, basés sur des moyens de distinction ayant une valeur intrinsèque (protectrice, séductrice, furtive ou autre). Pas la peine d'obligation de port de ces signes: ce sont les signes qui émergeront naturellement dans une société libre; c'est précisément par ce qu'ils marchent malgré l'absence de convention que tout naturellement la convention se fera universellement autour d'eux. Et merde à tous ces blasphémateurs qui prétendent parler au nom de Dieu, du Peuple, ou de toute autre Transcendance. Qu'ils montrent les preuves qu'ils sont sortis de la cuisse de Jupiter, ou nous les traiteront comme les escrocs esclavagistes qu'ils sont!

Amongst humans, like in most species, (and particularly so in days of welfare state,) children can survive without high paternal involvement: indeed, female genes have already chosen the high parental investment strategy before birth, so that rearing of children after birth is but an extension of their strategy, whereas it goes opposite to the initial male strategy of small gamets. There are exceptions, of course, and paternal parental investment is rather high in humans as compared to other species; in any case, what matters is that there is high potential for lack of paternal involvement in children rearing, whereas there is little such potential for maternal involvement.

Tout à l'heure, quand je m'assois dans le bus, deux quelconques beurettes d'une seizaine d'année discutent derrière moi. De retour de l'école, elles semblent commenter une nouvelle (réelle? prospective?) comme quoi l'Aïd-el-Kébir deviendrait jour férié en France, ainsi que le Yom Kippour. L'occasion pour moi de me rendre compte de visu (ou plutôt de auditu?) de l'état d'esprit de l'immigration maghrébine en France...

Au sujet de la Psychologie évolutionniste, Eric ABC nous a récemment fait découvrir Philippe Gouillou, son site, son blog, cependant que Martin Masse a attiré notre attention sur ses recensions de The Moral Animal de Robert Wright et The Stone Age Present de William F. Allman. Sur ce sujet a aussi été publié récemment cette interview de Steven Pinker par Robert Wright.

Malheureusement, le sujet de la psychologie évolutionniste est tabou, et ce qui peut se dire sur des mailing-lists privées des spécialistes est impubliable sur les mass-médias, y compris les maisons d'éditions. Rien n'est publiable sur papier qui ne fasse allégeance à l'idéologie égalitariste semi-officielle. La pensée unique social-étatiste règne en maître. Circulez, il n'y a rien à voir.

Quel nul je fais! Avec son tact habituel, Hervé de Quengo me fait prendre conscience de ce que lors de mon passage à la radio, j'ai erronément attribué à Henry Hazlitt un texte qui était de Leonard Read: I, Pencil. De plus, j'avais oublié qui, dans les années 1950, avait réintroduit le mot "libertarian" dans son acception moderne. Mea Magna Culpa.
