I recently made the interesting experience of teaching a friend how to ride a bicycle. Each lesson was less than half an hour; at the fifth she could actually ride without assistance. The conclusion of these lessons, unexpected to me, was that the most important thing to learn about riding a bicycle is how to stop. Then you get the confidence to learn the rest by just doing it.
