On the first weekend of April, I attended the Spring 2005 Convention of Libertarian International, in Sofia, Bulgaria, as organized by the Bulgarian Society for Individual Liberty. I was a speaker, and my speech was about Capitalism as the Institution of Ethics. The notes for my speech are now available on my web site.

Today is the centenary of the birthday of Ayn Rand, the great thinker of Liberty, who alone dared to defend Capitalism on moral grounds! Let's celebrate, together with the ISIL, Libertarian International, or the french ADEL!

Jeudi 20 janvier 2005, j'étais de par ma réputation de libertarien invité de Henri de Lesquen dans son émission Le Libre Journal des idées politiques sur Radio-Courtoisie, face à André Bonnet dans le rôle du catholique-traditionnaliste et à Henri de Lesquen lui-même (en l'absence du troisième invité initialement prévu) dans le rôle du libéral-conservateur. Henri de Lesquen avait articulé son émission en trois partie, définies par les questions suivantes: Un état laïque peut-il avoir une morale?, les droits de l'homme peuvent-ils tenir lieu de morale?, Faut-il avoir peur de l'ordre moral?. J'ai été je l'avoue très mauvais: j'ai tenté sans cesse et trop rigidement de revenir au plan que j'avais établi, au lieu de m'adapter aux interruptions et digressions de l'animateur; aussi, j'ai trouvé les bonnes répliques après l'émission plutôt que pendant, et c'est vous qui devez subir maintenant ce que je n'ai pas su dire alors.

Diverses entreprises m'ont fait passé des entretiens d'embauche. Mais j'ai aussi accordé d'autres interviews, dont la suivante que vous pouvez lire sur Liberté Magazine.

Sollicité par Arthur Wneir pour écrire dans l'édition papier de Choc-Info, je soumettais d'abord deux dialogues que j'avais eu avec Raymond. Mais comme ces dialogues sont trop long pour rentrer dans l'espace alloué (2800 caractères au lieu de 1600), ils attérissent en lieu et place sur mon blogue. Voici le premier.

This week-end, I was at the Libertarian International spring 2004 conference in Leiden, Holland. I was invited to give a speech on the Enterprise of Liberty vs the Enterprise of Politics (Update: the text is available on my site at last).

This week-end, I was in Brussels for the Capitalist Ball organized by the CNE. I met a lot of libertarian people from all over Europe and other continents, including many friends with whom I usually communicate but through the internet. There were beautiful women in splendid dresses. The music was just my kind of music, swinging and lively, mostly 1950s (but they could have picked more recorded songs, so as not to re-run the same ones several times during the dinner). Anthony de Jasay received one of the three awards during the dessert. Great dessert: I never thought crème brûlée could be that good. The amplifiers were set a bit too loud at times, but the band had us dance and swing the way I like. Having fun with a lot of like-minded people makes you feel just great. I met people with whom I greatly enjoy disagreeing. And I learnt a small trick of magic. Such a lovely evening it was, and I haven't started telling about my dancing partner yet. To boot, Hubert and Rita picked me as a speaker for the next Libertarian International conference in Leiden in April. Thank you a lot, Cécile for inviting me.

Sur le site d'Entrez Libres, un compte rendu de la marche de dimanche dernier. Comme Corentin le commente dans un email privé, c'est un événement fort sympathique, et que nous apprécions entre nous, mais qui n'a quasi aucun impact médiatique. Il est grand temps pour nous d'apprendre les méthodes modernes de propagande et de marketing politique que nos ennemis connaissent si bien. Et pourtant, aucun d'entre nous n'a envie de se salir et d'utiliser le mensonge, l'extorsion ou le recel de fonds volés (alias subventions politiques), etc., pour arriver à nos fins. En nous refusant les moyens du crime légal, et en acceptant en même temps de renoncer aux activités honnêtes mais illégales, partons-nous perdus d'avance? En tout cas, quelle que soit la réponse à cette question, il me paraît clair que même au sein de ces limites contraignantes, il y a un grand potentiel inexploité pour l'éducation économique et politique du public. Le bon côté des choses: vu qu'on part de zéro, on ne peut que faire mieux. Et en avant la pensée unique ultralibérale!

La manifestation a eu lieu. J'ai mis mon discours en ligne: OGM et principe de précaution -- le drame de l'irresponsabilité administrative. Trop fatigué pour en dire plus. Mais de la bonne fatigue, partagée avec de nombreux amis. La route m'attend.

Mon ami David Madore m'écrit une lettre fort pertinente au sujet de mon blog, avec comme à son habitude cette pénétration exceptionnelle qui est la sienne. Il met le doigt sur certains points essentiels qui ne vous ont je l'espère pas échappé, en tout cas qui méritaient d'être discutés. Voici le texte complet de sa lettre, et ma réponse incise. À l'occasion du débat sur l'opportunité des OGM, Liberté, j'écris ton nom, Les Libertariens, et quelques autres organisons une manifestation ce dimanche 2 novembre 2003 à 15h sur le Champ de Mars à Paris (Métro École Militaire, devant l'École). Le thème en sera la liberté et la responsabilité de la recherche, face à l'obscurantisme des pseudo-écologistes et à la tyrannie du contrôle politique. Il y aura quelques courts discours, à commencer par une intervention de Guy Millière, mais surtout, nous planterons symboliquement des OGM.

Ainsi, je serai parmi les orateurs, mais je viendrai aussi planter symboliquement mon plant de Tétra-Hydro-Carburol, ce carburant vert transgénique à haut rendement qui résoudra le problème énergétique mondial --- dès que la P.A.C. aura été abolie, qui détourne actuellement les ressources agricoles de productions utiles qu'elles prendraient pour les rediriger vers des productions nuisibles.

Venez nombreux (et couverts) manifester votre soutien au génie créateur libre et responsable, et votre rejet de la coercition comme moyen d'orienter et de désorienter la recherche.

Refreshing news from CNN: Free Market Advocates Fight Back at WTO. I bet they won't be featured on french news networks, except perhaps briefly as hate bait.

This begs the question: what is efficient freedom activism? Hum. I guess I ought to go back to BuildFreedom.com and read about Freedom Technology.

The Democrats cry, "The emperor should subsidize the poor!", Republicans argue, "No, the emperor should subsidize the rich!", Libertarians respond, "The emperor wears no clothes", while Terra Librans ask, "Why do they call that naked man emperor?"

Googling my way and chasing links to find stuff related to my article on Government and Black Magic, I had already discovered this excellent article on the Nature of Government by Frederick Mann (well, actually, I had found an older version on the site of the APFN -- see my post below about the hallowcinotion that is government). Well, it's only one in a vast body of interesting documents from Terra Libra (the homepage of which I located thanks to the links from libertocracy). There seems to be a gold-mine of documents to Clear Your Mind from the statist pollution. As for the quote above, it's from an article named the Terra Libra Shift. Another site I found along the way is Revolution, ammo for freedom fighters, but I much prefer the name of the site Build Freedom -- because it makes it obvious that Liberty is a paradigm of creation and harmony, whereas talking about fight is already buying into the paradigm of destruction and conflict of the enslavers.
