Proof of No Discrimination
As I was positively amazed by the stars who proudly
wore T-shirts with the inscription Celtics
to the highest place, I was asked whether I thought
there was any anti-white discrimination against players.
My answer was an emphatic No
. Why?
Because in major league sports, money matters a lot.
And any indiscriminate discrimination on anything but performance
means that you're losing money to those who discriminate better.
Case in point:
Billy Beane
or
Jim Larranaga.
If you could just identify how other people discriminate players on anything but performance, you could make a shitload of money buying contracts with undervalued players and selling contracts with overvalued players. You think that's possible, but people are just not doing it? What are you waiting for to become a gazillionaire? Are you lacking in startup capital? Why aren't you pooling money with all the many alleged others who believe in this idea, taking money out of low-interest bank accounts to get a much better deal while at the same time fighting discrimination? In a free market, there are no market failures, only market opportunities.
The real reason the moaners are not doing it is that they are a spineless hypocrites who'd rather bitch about non-existing oppression than do something about their own avowed convictions; they are black magic worshippers who want someone else from above to grant them all the things they desire.
Socialists like to moan that capitalism is supporting established discriminations. But actually, it is the very selfish "money, money, money" attitude they denounce, that makes capitalist systematically destroy undue discriminations. Social castes by birth, slavery, the oppression of women, racism, were all squelched by the capitalists of capitalist countries, because there were huge profits to be made ending these counter-productive forms of oppression. Traditional societies have oppression galore; authoritarian societies preserve legacy oppression; totalitarian societies impose oppression of their own. Only capitalist societies systematically go after oppressive discriminations, and precisely because each free agent's quest for efficiency leads to eliminating those pareto-unoptimal interactions that contribute negatively to the game sum.
Society exists because social cooperation is a positive sum game that is in the self-interest of each individual's. It is precisely because individuals gain at social interaction that there is any social progress and that we don't live in caves and trees. Statists believe the opposite: that individuals need to sacrifice their self-interest for the sake of social cooperation. From their absurd beliefs they create endless conflict and violence through the universal war of all against all that is the conquest of Political Power.
PS: So if there is no discrimination on anything but talent, why are there more blacks than whites amongst basketball champions, or marathon champions, etc.? Simply because it's incredibly easier to find talented black basketball players than white basketball players. There is a good genetic pool of talent, reinforced by a culture of playing basketball amongst black people, that combine into a comparative advantage that makes it more relatively more advantageous for black people than for white people to pursue a basketball career as compared to another one, etc. If you're a short white female why try hard to become a mediocre basketball player when instead you could play lacrosse or learn medecine? If you're a tall black male and you know by lifelong playing that you're good on the field, why not try to go pro, instead of switching to another activity you enjoy less? Maybe this particular white guy has the genetic potential to become a basketball champion, but faced with other safer or more attractive opportunities he will never deepen the basketball venue. Whichever field of human endeavour you consider, you'll find that there is an uneven distribution of people according to various genetic and cultural traits. Because indeed different genetic and memetic traits matter for performance in different fields, which creates comparative advantages for different people to pursue different careers. No need for active discrimination against anything but talent. And the unevenness in population distribution will only get more pronounced as you seek the extremes of talent, because the different bell curves of talent distribution within each of these different populations and subpopulations will only get more uneven as you go away from the average.
