Animation Movies
To complete this series of quick movie reviews, here's for animation movies I saw this year.
Nausicaa, 1984
Great movie. Despite all the cuts to the original story
conceded to fit the format of a theatrical motion picture,
the essence of the comic book story is there, condensed.
What is great with Miyazaki is that the bad guys
are not your usual dumb psychopathic thugs;
they are true people, with depth of character,
a believable psychology that explains why they do what they do.
They are human beings who have adopted evil ways as a consequence
of their beliefs and attitude; they are not the demonic projections
of the author's own bad impulses incarnate into a straw man.

Mind Game, 2004
It blew my mind. It will blow yours. Live life to the fullest.
Note: 8.5
Shrek, 2001
My sister had liked it so much I had high expectations.
It was not bad, but it just didn't fit the bill.
Vulgar. Little surprises in the scenario.
The songs ok but not great.
Note: 5.5
Pom Poko, 1994
A nice studio Ghibli anime about Tanukis that try to survive
the advance of Tokyo's suburbs, that destroys their land
(that are a kind of dog, not racoons
as the english version make them!).
The tanukis will try to revive the ancient art of shape shifting
to drive humans away from their territory.
Not Miyazaki, but that same (absurd but likeable)
ecological theme dear to his heart.
Note: 7.0
Corpse Bride, 2005
Sometimes, I didn't get what was said
and would have appreciated a subtitle,
but all in all, it was a good animation movie.
Nothing deep, nothing new,
just a good moment of fun.
